Foothold
Foothold
Foothold is a turn-based strategy game about taking ground. You start in one corner, the AI starts in the other, and the board between you is full of resource nodes. Claim a node and your income goes up. More income means you claim faster. That's the whole loop, and a match runs about four minutes.
Four moves
You get four moves:
- Expand costs gold and takes an empty tile next to something you already own.
- Build costs wood and develops a neutral resource node.
- Upgrade costs stone and permanently doubles what one of your nodes produces.
- Siege costs gold and captures a tile from the enemy. Captured nodes come back damaged, so you pay wood on top to repair what you just took.
Spend as much as you can afford, then end your turn. You win by capturing the enemy keep, or by holding more tiles when round 12 runs out. Nothing on the board is permanently safe, including your keep, so there's no position you can turtle into and no lead that can't be broken.
Three maps
Three maps, and each one gets in your way differently. The River cuts the board in half and leaves two bridges, so most matches come down to who takes a crossing first. Shoreline has a tide that floods the shoreline on its own schedule, which means ground you own can go under and come back. The Volcano runs on a real-time eruption timer; meteors show you where they're going to hit about three seconds ahead, then scorch the tile. A forest map is in progress for a future update.
Options
There's a CRT filter in the settings if you want scanlines, and a tutorial that teaches all four moves by making you use them.
Free to play
Free to play, and free of extra monetization. No ads, no timers, nothing to buy.

Super fun idea! Love the style and the gameplay feels great. Eventually just comes down to clicking on tiles, but the strategy is sure to develop with more mechanics. Great beginning to a game; can't wait to see where this goes!!
Thank you! Appreciate the feedback. I think the Forest level will add some fun new mechanics, and eventually, I'd like to make it multiplayer so that 2 devices can join one shared game.
